Thomas Martin Obituary

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Thomas Hugh Martin  Age 77.  He was called home on March 5th surrounded by his long time partner of 47 years Patty Pippin and his family.    Loving brother of  Nancy Kinczel (Frank), Linda Martin (Terry Plowden) and Ken Martin (Fiancé Annette Lucarelli). Uncle and great uncle of many.  Funeral mass will be held Friday, March 14th, 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent DePaul Church 13400 Lorain Avenue. PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. Entombment Holy Cross Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the David Martens & Son Funeral Home 4175 Rocky River Drive (between Lorain & Puritas) on Thursday from 3-7 p.m. Family suggests contributions to the church or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.

Tommy was born in Lorain Ohio to the late Irene and Hugh Martin, who raised him to be a man of unwavering faith, kindness and devotion. He attended Admiral King high school and the University of Akron. Following college he joined the U.S. Navy for 4 years of active duty and 16 years in the reserves.  He was a dedicated partner, Navy veteran, friend to all and a servant of God.  As a lector at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Tommy took the most joy in serving the community and sharing the love of Christ.

Tommy worked in insurance, his last employer being Richey Barrett Insurance, speaking fondly of his time there, but his true calling went far beyond his career.  His heart was with those in need.  He spent his spare time teaching classes to help struggling individuals earn their GED's, pouring his knowledge and encouragement into those who needed it most.  His commitment to lifting others up reflected the very essence of who he was - a man who believed in everyone and the power of second chances.

As a proud Navy veteran,, Tommy spoke about serving his country with humor and pride - yet it was his resilience that was most admired.  Tommy bravely fought a lifelong battle with Parkinson' disease.  He was a man for others - generous, loud, witty, with a full heart of compassion and love.
