Rita J. Zappone
(nee Klell), age 83, born April 10,1935, passed away February 4, 2019. Peacefully with family at her bedside.Born in Cleveland, Ohio Rita had successful careers in the recruitment and publishing industries. She was also known as a civic leader founding the Up Downtown organization. She was recognized by Cleveland magazine as one the most interesting people of 1978. She was known for her great style, wit and generous nature. She loved to cook and entertain friends earning her the nickname "Mother Oven". She gave the gifts of laughter ,joy and was a loyal friend to many. She is survived by her loving daughter and best friend Michelle Zappone, devoted brothers Charles E. Scanlon (Sue); Shawn M. Scanlon (Janice) and many nieces, nephews and good friends. A private celebration to honor her life will be held by invitation at a later date.
