Jeannette Gedeon Obituary

JEANNETTE F. GEDEON (nee Ames), age 94 years, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2024, with her family lovingly by her side. Jeannette was born on June 19, 1929 to the late Leslie and Johanna (Roche) Ames in Cleveland, OH. Wife of her beloved Roy M. Gedeon (deceased), U.S. Army Veteran. for 64 faithfully devoted years. Dear mother of Marianne (Wally) Wowk, Patricia (Richard) Volle, Norine (James) Sanniti, and John (Shelley) Gedeon. Loving sister of Margaret (deceased & Robert Smith, deceased) and Carol (Edward) Schluedecker. Loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. Friend and neighbor to all.

Cherished “Nana” to Jennifer (Robert) Waswzkiewicz, Kristen (Michael) Zacharias, Sara (Kevin) Archer, Lisa (Nicholas Stewart), Brian (Meghan) Sanniti, Regina Wowk, John Jr. (Emily) Gedeon, Valerie (Craig) Coldren, Britney (Molly) Walters, Nicole Gedeon (deceased), Megan Sanniti. Adored Great-Grandmother of Riley, Connor, Leah, Ella, Ethan, Luca, Ronan, Grayson, Greyson, John Anthony III, Killian, Miles, Lyla, Vivian, and Scarlett.

Longtime parishioners of St. Mark Church (since 1960),  where she was active in the Women’s Guild, volunteered on a regular basis up at school, and helped found the Reading Lab while instilling a love of reading into every child’s life she touched. Her love of literature and endless gifts of books for her grandchildren, each personally inscribed with a tender message, dated and signed, resulted in an accumulation of books over time, nurturing both our collection and minds, seamlessly growing with us.

Jeannette embodied the best of qualities, faith in God, unconditional love, and an unending generosity that could be seen in her care for everyone she knew, including family members, friends, and neighbors. Her door was always open, each time happy to help and spend time with you, give advice and support, a shoulder to cry on, or have a good laugh. And for that brief period of time, all of her attention was focused on you. When it was time to depart, a hug and a kiss, conversation carrying on for another half hour, and a wave goodbye at the screen door with her husband by her side, brought her infinite joy.
